The Work

Blood and Silk is a wall of feeling. Deep magenta fields press against rose and blush, the surface built up in thick, sculpted impasto that catches light differently at every angle. Layers of pink move from dusty powder at the horizon to saturated raspberry and dark plum at the base, interrupted by sweeping vertical strokes in coral and tangerine. The composition sits low and wide, a broad landscape of heat held just below boiling. Nothing drips. Nothing dissolves. The colour simply accumulates until the air around it changes.

The Inspiration

This piece came from the particular tension of feelings that have been held in too long. Not sadness, not anger, but the full, pressured weight of something warm and alive that has not yet been released. The impasto technique was chosen deliberately: colour built up in layers, ridge by ridge, until the surface itself becomes the emotion. Red has always carried urgency, but this palette moves it through pink and rose into something more personal and more raw.

What It Carries

Blood and Silk holds the moment just before release. There is nothing fragile about it, but it is not violent either. It sits in the room like a held breath. People who live with it describe coming back to it at different times of day and finding something different each time, which is usually a sign that the work is doing its job.

Living With It

The magenta and blush palette makes this piece a strong pairing with warm neutrals, charcoal, and natural linen. It holds its own against stone, concrete, and dark timber.
