About This Design

Cardinal Leaf brings together rich red, crisp white and deep forest green heart shaped leaves in a dense, overlapping field, red stems threading through the gaps where one leaf lifts away from the next. The white leaves carry fine red veining that fans out from the centre like a network of thin rivers, while the red and green leaves anchor the surface in deeper, more solid tone. The layering feels generous rather than sparse, leaves crowding together the way growth stacks up in warm, wet climates. Rendered with visible grain and soft shadow beneath each shape, the surface holds real dimension, some leaves seeming to lift forward while others recede into shadow behind them. At upholstery scale the density reads as rich and full, red carrying the most visual weight with white and green working to keep the surface from tipping into one solid block of colour.

The Inspiration

Red and green together carry an immediate, seasonal association, but Cardinal Leaf treats that pairing as a botanical fact rather than a festive one, drawn from real tropical foliage that carries this exact colour combination naturally, long before either colour meant anything else. The white leaves came from watching how veining reads differently against a pale ground than it does against colour, the same red line taking on an entirely different presence depending on what sits behind it.
