About This Design
Cymbidium is the most colourful design in Monkey Orchard, and the most retro. Amber and gold orbs sit among olive green, teal blue, red, and cream, each one stippled and textured like something printed by hand in another decade. Teal monkeys climb and settle through dark branches, tails curling around the fruit. The palette has a mid-century warmth, the feel of a vintage travel poster that grew up. The impasto effect gives every orb a grainy, worked surface, so the colour never reads flat. Up close, the texture becomes the story; across a room, the pattern turns into a busy, cheerful rhythm. Named for the boat orchid that flowers in green, bronze, and gold, Cymbidium is the piece for people who want colour, character, and a little nostalgia all at once.
The Inspiration
Cymbidium takes its name from the boat orchid, a flower that blooms in green, bronze, and gold, the exact warmth this design lives in. The look goes back to mid-century illustration, the golden-age poster, and the grown-up children's book, where colour was generous, and pattern was fearless. The monkeys came in teal to sit against all that warmth. It is the design for people who miss when things were made with real colour and want a piece that brings some of that back.
What It Carries
Cymbidium brings a room energy without any sharp edges. The colours are warm and full, the kind that make a space feel lived in and happy rather than styled. There is nostalgia in it, a memory of a pattern from another time, which gives the design a familiar comfort even at first sight. On upholstery, it turns a chair into a personality. On cushions, it pulls a whole scheme together. What lingers is cheer, a room that feels warm, colourful, and glad to have you in it.
Design Size Options
This design is available in three layout scales:
Grand: A larger-scale composition that reads with authority across statement furniture and feature walls.
Classic: A balanced, repeated layout with natural structure and rhythm. Works across most applications.
Detailed: A fine-scale repeat where the impasto texture becomes the surface itself. Ideal for scatter cushions, smaller upholstery panels, and layered soft furnishings.
💡 Style tip: Use a measuring tape to mark out 50cm on your planned project surface. That window shows you exactly how the Detailed scale brings texture and rhythm into a smaller space.
