THE WORK

Two figures stand close, nearly merged into one shape at the centre of the frame. Her hair streams sideways in dark, wild strokes, caught mid-turn against pale blue light. His form holds still beside her, solid where hers dissolves into motion. Warm gold and amber tones rise from the lower half of the image, licking upward like heat through cool blue air. Their faces tilt toward each other, close enough that the space between them nearly disappears. Everything below their shoulders blurs into colour and movement, while the upper bodies hold just enough shape to read as two people, not one.

THE INSPIRATION

Duende is a word with no clean translation, used in flamenco and Spanish performance to describe the moment a dancer stops performing and starts being taken over, a surge that arrives uninvited and can't be summoned on command. This piece works from that idea rather than illustrating any specific dance. It's less about choreography and more about the instant control gives way to feeling, the body responding to rhythm before the mind catches up. Unrehearsed carries that same thought forward; nothing here was planned or held to counts; it's motion as it actually happened, once, unrepeatable.

WHAT IT CARRIES

There's a tension here that never resolves into a single reading. It could be the charge before a first touch, or the heat of something already familiar between two people who know exactly how close they can stand. What lingers is the sense of a pull neither figure seems fully in charge of, movement led by something underneath conscious thought. It's intimate without being staged, physical without needing to explain itself.

LIVING WITH IT

The warm amber and rust tones ground this piece in richer, earth-based interiors, while the cool blue keeps it from feeling heavy. It suits bedrooms, private lounges, and spaces meant for slowing down rather than passing through, anywhere a sense of closeness matters. In low, warm light, the amber tones deepen and the piece feels almost lit from within, while daylight sharpens the contrast between the two figures.
