The Work
Orange burns from the centre of this composition, the warmest point in a piece that is otherwise entirely consumed by magenta and deep violet. The impasto here moves laterally: wide, sweeping strokes that carry the orange outward before the cooler tones press back in from the edges. Fragments of teal surface briefly in the upper left, the only suggestion of another emotional register before the heat takes over again. The paint is layered in a way that creates genuine depth, darker values beneath warm ones, so the orange reads as if it's glowing from inside the surface rather than sitting on top of it.
The Inspiration
The eye of a storm is the strangest place: surrounded by the worst of it, yet inexplicably calm at the centre. This piece takes the opposite view. Here the centre burns. The heat is the origin point, not the refuge. The stillness, if it exists at all, lives somewhere beyond the magenta edges, implied but never confirmed.
What It Carries
There's an optimism buried inside this piece that isn't immediately obvious. The orange reads as fire, yes, but fire is also the source of warmth, the thing that draws people in rather than driving them away. The tension between the violet perimeter and the glowing core is what makes the work stay with you: a centre that holds even when everything around it is in motion.
Living With It
The palette is specific: this piece suits warm-toned spaces with confidence. Works with terracotta, burnt ochre, dark olive, and charcoal. In a white room it will define the entire mood of the space. Against a deep wall colour it becomes part of the architecture. The 1200 x 2000mm format turns this into something closer to a window than a picture.
Who It's For
For the person who leads from the centre of things and wants their space to reflect that. Designers specifying for hospitality spaces where energy and warmth matter as much as beauty.
