About This Design

Colour with Confidence takes its name from exactly what it does on a surface. The pattern is built from interlocking puzzle piece shapes, each one holding a single saturated colour of its own, and none of them apologise for it. Deep red sits beside burnt gold, teal meets violet, magenta pushes against forest green. No two neighbouring pieces share a shade, keeping the eye moving rather than settling. Within each piece the colour is not flat. Rendered in impasto style, paint ridges and grain catch the light differently depending on the angle you view the fabric from, or how it folds across a cushion or seat. At upholstery scale the pieces read like a mosaic of colour blocks, ordered by shape but wild in tone, and no two metres repeat in quite the same way. It is lively without turning chaotic, held together by the same discipline that gives the design its name.

The Inspiration

A finished jigsaw puzzle only makes sense once every piece sits in the right place. Colour with Confidence keeps that structure but drops the picture it usually builds toward. There is no scene waiting at the end, only pieces that fit without a single one repeating its neighbour's colour. That decision, to let colour lead without asking permission, is where the name comes from. It began as a study in how far colour can be pushed before a room stops trusting it, and the answer turned out to be further than expected.
