About This Design

Deep teal fills the ground like the sky just after dark, and against it the canopies glow: cream crowns on pale, slender trunks alongside mid-blue ones on darker wood. Each tree is drawn with fine layered foliage, branch lines that taper to almost nothing and small tufts of grass at the base. Craggy blue rock formations sit between the trees, adding weight and a sense of terrain. Cream and blue trees alternate through the repeat, so the pattern has a quiet back and forth, light then dark, light then dark. At a distance it reads as a glowing grove on a deep teal field. Up close, the fine detail rewards a slow look at every branch. Within Ancient Giants, Lantern Grove is the most nocturnal design of the group.

The Inspiration

Lantern Grove began with the way pale trees seem to carry their own light after the sun has gone. In the last of the dusk, white bark and silvery leaves hold on to what is left of the day, while everything around them settles into deep colour. Teal stands for that darkening ground, cream for the glow, and blue for the trees still half in shadow. Rocks and grass were added so the grove feels found rather than planted.

What It Carries

Lantern Grove carries the feeling of being safe at night. The deep teal wraps around the pattern like a closed door against the cold, while the cream crowns give it a warmth that has nothing to do with heat.
