About This Design
Burnt orange canopies pile up in thick impasto strokes, ridged and layered like leaves caught at the moment they turn. Beneath them stand broad teal trunks whose branches fork and thin into fine, reaching twigs, while rounded teal shapes behind read as distant hills or the shadow the trees throw. The ground is a soft, lightly creased off-white that lets both colours glow. Trees overlap across the repeat, so a trunk in front hides half of the one behind it, which gives the pattern depth rather than a flat row of silhouettes. From a distance the orange reads as warm cloud above cool teal. Up close, the impasto detail takes over, every stroke dragged in a slightly different direction. Within Ancient Giants, Long Shade is the heaviest, most generous canopy of the group.
The Inspiration
Long Shade comes from the memory of stopping beneath a very large tree on a hot afternoon, when the leaves overhead had started to turn and the light came through them orange. Trees like this have always given wanderers somewhere to rest. Burnt orange stands for that last warm stretch of the year, and teal for the cool, dense shade directly beneath the branches, where it suddenly becomes easy to stay a little longer. It is the kind of place people remember.
What It Carries
Long Shade carries the comfort of being sheltered. The burnt orange is generous and slow, never sharp, and the teal gives it somewhere cool to rest, so the pairing feels like late afternoon rather than noon. Used generously, it makes a space feel gathered in. Used sparingly, it gives a quiet corner a warm centre. The thick impasto detail keeps it from ever feeling flat, and the heavy trunks anchor the design with a calm, grounded weight.
Design Size Options
This design is available in three layout scales:
Grand: A larger-scale composition that reads with authority wherever the pattern needs room to show itself.
Classic: A balanced, repeated layout with natural structure and rhythm. Works across most applications.
Detailed: A fine-scale repeat where the impasto texture becomes the surface itself. Suits any project where the pattern is seen up close.
Style tip: Mark out a small section on your planned project surface to see how the Detailed scale reads in your space. That preview will show you exactly how the texture and rhythm land before you commit to a size.
