About This Design

Nebula Petal Daisies breaks from the rest of The Independents in mood and palette. Black, teal, sand and white sit together in loose, expressive strokes, each daisy built from broad impasto petals rather than fine detail. At the centre of the design a black brushed swirl curls through the flowers, echoing the spiral arm of a galaxy caught mid-turn. That single sweeping line gives the whole pattern its pull, guiding the eye the way a night sky draws the gaze upward. Around it, sand and teal settle into soft uneven fields, giving the dark linework room to move. Viewed up close, the petals read like calligraphy, each stroke visible and deliberate. Stepped back, the same marks resolve into rhythm, dark shapes trading space with light ones across the fabric. Nothing else in the collection moves quite like this one does.

The Inspiration

This design started with a single photograph of the night sky, the kind where the Milky Way shows itself as one long pale smear across the dark. Jacques kept coming back to the way that smear curved, not straight, not random, but spiralling with intent. Daisies became the way to bring that shape down to something you could touch. The swirl at the centre of the piece is a direct trace of that curve, slowed down and given petals to hold onto.
