About This Design

Oies Dorées brings a different register of drama to the Aviaire Chanson collection. White geese, broad-bodied, deliberate in their movement, rendered with fine linework and subtle feather texture, move across a near-black ground between oversized orbs in burnt gold, deep rust, and warm charcoal. The orbs carry fine concentric line patterns within them, a texture that reads almost like etched metal under certain light conditions. The geese are not elegant in the way swans are elegant. They carry a different kind of authority: grounded, purposeful, unhurried. The composition has a graphic quality that sits closer to mid-century printmaking than to decorative pattern, and this is where its distinctiveness lies. At upholstery scale the gold orbs create a warmth against the dark ground that makes the fabric perform differently under natural versus artificial light, with the gold deepening toward amber in the evening.

The Inspiration

The domestic goose as a creature almost never taken seriously in textile design, passed over for peacocks and exotic birds, overlooked in favour of the decorative. Oies Dorées redresses that oversight. The goose, placed in gold and darkness, becomes something genuinely arresting.
