About This Design

Olive and moss green canopies spread in wide, flat-topped tiers, drawn in fine, feathery detail against a deep teal ground. The trunks vary, some pale cream, some dark olive, so the grove reads as many ages at once. Behind the trees, mist and blue-grey mountain shapes dissolve into the teal, giving the pattern a long, soft depth. A faint woven grain runs across the ground and gives the colour a quiet, settled calm. Trees stack in rows that overlap, so the eye travels upward through them as if climbing a slope. From a distance the pattern reads as layered green light on teal water. Up close, the fine foliage rewards a slow look. The Inspiration

Old growth is the name foresters give to woodland left to age: no clearing, no replanting, just centuries of trees growing at their own pace. It is the closest thing the natural world has to a library, every layer holding a different year. This design is built around that depth. Deep teal is the cool understorey, olive and moss green are the canopies that have found the light, and cream bark marks out the oldest trunks.
