The Work

Wine and magenta roses fill the upper portion of this canvas against a soft blush and coral ground, colour bleeding downward into deep teal at the base. The transition from pale, gentle background at the top to saturated bloom and dripping colour below gives this piece more tonal range than the darker pieces in the collection, moving from soft to intense within a single composition.

The Inspiration

Most pieces in this range hold one consistent intensity throughout. This one asked what happens when that same hyper-saturated bloom technique is paired with a genuinely soft, pale background instead of navy or black, letting the piece move between two very different registers.

What It Carries

The pale background gives the wine-toned roses room to feel even more intense by contrast, while keeping the overall piece from reading as purely dark or dramatic. That range, soft to intense within one canvas, is what makes it feel more approachable than the darker-grounded pieces.

Living With It

The lighter background makes this piece considerably more flexible for placement than the navy or black-grounded pieces, working well in a bedroom, living space, or anywhere a softer entry point into bold colour is wanted.
