Brick red, antique honey, and deep burgundy roses press together across this canvas, their petals hyper-saturated and glossy in finish. Long trails of colour bleed downward from the blooms into a deep teal ground below, paint running rather than sitting still. The transition from dense bloom at the top to open, dripping colour at the base gives the piece real vertical movement.
This piece let the rose's own colour become liquid, running past the edge of the bloom rather than staying contained within it. The teal ground was necessary to make that bleeding colour visible and legible, a stage dark enough to hold the drips without losing them.
The downward bleed gives this piece a sense of colour in motion, something happening rather than something finished. That movement is what keeps the eye traveling through the piece rather than settling on one bloom.
The vertical bleed suits a taller wall or a space beside a stairwell where that downward movement has room to read. Holds strong contrast under most lighting.
For someone who wants a rose painting with real movement, colour that doesn't stay where it's put.
