Roses in Total Darkness, Oxblood and Ink, Original Art Canvas Print

The Work

Deep oxblood, maroon, and near-black roses saturate this canvas almost entirely, one bright antique honey bloom breaking through near the top as the single point of relief. Long trails of colour bleed downward through the composition, disappearing into an ink-dark navy ground at the base. This is the darkest, most concentrated piece in the range, holding the least visible background of any design in the collection.

The Inspiration

This piece pushed the collection's darkest register as far as it would go, asking how much oxblood and near-black could be held together before the piece lost all sense of individual bloom. The single honey-toned flower was the one concession, kept bright enough to give the eye a clear point of entry into all that darkness.

What It Carries

The near-total darkness of this piece creates real gravity, colour that reads as weight rather than brightness. The single honey-toned note prevents the piece from becoming too heavy to hold attention, giving it just enough contrast to stay legible.
