About This Design

Beige petals form the heart of this design, each one shaped like a folded leaf and shaded so the dimension comes entirely from light and shadow rather than colour. Four petals meet at their points to form a circular medallion, and in the gaps between them, sharp black star bursts fill the negative space, radiating outward like a firework caught mid-flare. The impasto effect is doing real work here, every petal reads as genuinely folded material, curved and creased, while the black stars stay flat and graphic by contrast.

Up close, the shading inside each petal has real sculptural quality, soft gradients moving from light to shadow along the fold. From across a room, the petals and stars lock together into a rhythmic, circular repeat, beige and black trading the eye's attention in equal measure. Against the collection's more painterly, saturated pieces, The Ambassadeurs is the one built entirely on form, shadow and graphic contrast.

The Inspiration

This one is named for the Ambassadeurs, the storied Paris nightclub that hosted some of the era's most celebrated performers and drew the era's most fashionable crowds. The venue itself was known for its sculptural, modern interiors, and The Ambassadeurs takes that same architectural confidence and translates it into folded petal medallions offset by sharp black stars.
