The ground burns. A saturated field of red and orange occupies most of the lower composition, alive with loose brushwork, scattered paint flecks, and gestural marks that move in every direction. Circles in yellow-gold, teal, dark burgundy, and muted orange sit across the mid-ground, their edges soft and scruffy, some outlined, some dissolving into the field around them. The upper register shifts into teal and dark blue-grey, cooler and more still than the heat below. A single cyan circle holds the upper right with quiet deliberateness. The composition is in transition. Nothing has arrived. Everything is on the way.
Becoming is not a destination. It is a condition. This piece was built from the visual quality of that in-between state, the one where you are clearly no longer what you were but not yet what you are moving toward. The red ground is the heat of it. The cooler upper field is the direction. The circles are the parts of you that are already there, already changed, already different, floating in the space between what was and what is forming.
Of all the works in the collection, this one sits most comfortably with ambiguity. It does not resolve. It insists on the process itself as the subject. What remains with you is a kind of permission, the recognition that not being finished is not the same as failing. The red ground does not feel dangerous here. It feels generative. The heat is what the becoming is made of.
The red and gold palette creates warmth without aggression in the right context. Against warm white walls, pale timber, and natural stone, it pulls the room forward. Against darker tones, the teal upper field creates atmospheric depth. This piece suits creative spaces, open-plan living areas, and any room where the conversation rarely stops. The energy it brings is forward-moving, curious, and alive.
For the person in the middle of becoming something, who needs to see that the middle is where all the real work happens.
