The Work

A portrait-format composition built like a skyline at night. Teal holds the left field, cool and quiet, while magenta towers rise through the centre and right, climbing out of warm orange and brass tones at the base. A dark ground anchors the lower third, giving the impression of streets falling into shadow while the towers above catch the last of the light. The eye enters at the teal edge, then climbs with the magenta shapes as they rise, the warm base pulling attention back down before sending it up again. The contrast between the cool, settled left and the rising warm structure on the right gives the piece its vertical energy.

The Inspiration

The piece holds the exact hour a city stops performing for anyone. After midnight, the noise drops away and what is left is the shape of the place itself: towers, shadow, the odd warm light still on somewhere high up. Portrait format was the right choice to carry that vertical rise, magenta towers climbing out of a warm orange and brass base the way real buildings catch the last colour in the sky before the dark takes over completely. Teal on the left keeps the piece grounded, a quiet witness to the rise happening beside it.

What It Carries

The rise of the magenta towers against the dark base creates a genuine sense of ascent, the eye pulled upward the same way a real skyline pulls the gaze. What lingers after looking away is that same feeling every city offers at the right hour: something quieter and more honest than daylight ever shows. On repeated viewing, the warm base rewards a longer look, brass and orange tones sitting low and settled beneath the rising shapes above.

Living With It

The teal, magenta, and warm brass palette sits well against charcoal, deep navy, or a warm grey wall, letting the dark base recede while the towers hold the eye. In a hallway or stairwell, the portrait format and vertical rise suit a tall, narrow wall particularly well. Evening lighting deepens the dark base and lifts the magenta, while daylight softens the whole piece into a calmer read. A deeper profile frame gives the rising shapes more presence in a room with height to spare.
