The Work

A single dramatic arc carries the full spectrum across the canvas in one continuous motion: magenta at the start, moving through orange, yellow, and green before landing in deep teal at the far end. The composition reads like a wave caught mid-break, or a wrecking ball still swinging through its arc, the colour never pausing long enough to settle in one place. Each shift in the arc curves rather than breaks, keeping the whole piece in a single unbroken line of motion. The eye follows the arc from the magenta start straight through to the teal landing point, with no competing focal point to interrupt the sweep.

The Inspiration

The starting point was a single idea: some movements only work if you commit fully, with nothing held back partway through. The Sweep takes the full colour spectrum and commits it to one continuous arc rather than breaking it into separate fields, like a wave that doesn't pause halfway through breaking. The wrecking ball reference guided the arc's physical shape, carrying weight and momentum from the first colour to the last, so the piece reads as a single decisive motion rather than a composed arrangement.

What It Carries

The unbroken arc gives the piece real momentum, a sense that the motion is still happening rather than already finished. That feeling of movement mid-swing is what lingers, the eye still tracking the curve even after looking away. On a longer look, the specific point where orange gives way to green becomes the quiet centre of the piece, the pivot the whole arc turns around. It rewards attention without asking for it loudly.

Living With It

The full spectrum sweep works best against a plain, neutral wall, warm grey, off-white, or charcoal, where the arc has room to read clearly without competing colour nearby. Morning light picks out the yellow and green midpoint, while evening light deepens the magenta and teal at either end. In a wide format, the arc suits a long wall where the eye can follow its full curve. In a large format, it becomes the single statement a room needs, with nothing else required beside it.
