The Work

This is the vertical piece in the collection, and the orientation changes everything about how the paint moves. Pale light washes from the upper third, a near-white sky of blended teal and cream that gradually gives way to denser, warmer strokes below. Pink, coral, and warm orange push upward in wide impasto marks, meeting the cooler upper register without resolution. The middle section is where the real action happens: a zone of maximum colour complexity where the two temperatures press against each other in a way that feels genuinely undecided. Dark olive and muted green appear in the lower left, grounding the composition before the eye returns upward.

The Inspiration

Before a storm arrives, there's a particular quality of light. Softer than usual, diffused, as if the atmosphere is holding its breath. This piece lives in that moment. Nothing has happened yet. The colours are still negotiating. The decision about what this experience is going to become hasn't been made. That suspension is its own kind of weather.

What It Carries
