The Work

Multiple orange circles fill the composition with impasto-thick surfaces, each one outlined in black and carrying visible texture across its face. They float and cluster against a fractured background of magenta, hot pink, deep navy, and white, the ground moving in broad horizontal and diagonal strokes beneath them. Blue drips descend through the upper register. White flecks scatter through the darkness. The orange forms are the unmistakable subject, present and assertive, their warmth refusing to be absorbed by the chaos surrounding them.

The Inspiration

This piece is about the kind of rising that does not wait for approval. The orange circles did not negotiate with the magenta field. They arrived. The contrast between the warm, grounded orange and the fractured, restless background is deliberate. The rising this work describes is not elegant. It is necessary. It happens because it has to, not because the conditions were right.

What It Carries

There is an optimism in this work that refuses to be saccharine. The orange is too thick, too present, too unapologetic for that. What you take from spending time here is the reminder that presence is not the same as aggression. These circles do not push anything out. They simply refuse to disappear.
