The Work

Passage is a portrait-format canvas where colour moves from cool blue and teal at the top through a turbulent orange and red mid-section into a deeper, darker base of navy and burgundy. The vertical orientation intensifies the sense of descent or ascent, depending on how you read it. Impasto strokes cut horizontally across the columnar movement, creating interference patterns, moments where the downward colour is arrested by something moving across it. The painting has no single focal point: the eye moves continuously.

The Inspiration

Passage came from the experience of being in transition without a map. Not lost, precisely, because there is still movement. But unanchored from the coordinates that previously made sense. The vertical format was chosen to emphasize the directional quality of the emotion: you are going somewhere, you are not sure where, and the colours around you keep changing as you move.

What It Carries

This is one of the most overtly emotional pieces in the collection. The downward movement through warm into cool, or cool into warm depending on orientation, echoes the arc of feelings that do not resolve neatly. It carries both urgency and uncertainty, which is a rare combination in a single composition.

Living With It

The blue, orange, and red palette gives Passage flexibility across interior styles. Portrait orientation makes it ideal for entrance halls, stairwells, and corridors where the vertical energy can work with the architecture. Also powerful in a bedroom or sitting room as a floor-to-ceiling statement in large format.
