About This Design

Teal, burnt orange, deep red and cream daisies crowd together with almost no ground showing between them, each bloom finished with a near black centre that pins the eye in place. The Inspiration

This pattern grew out of a roadside verge thick with mixed wildflowers, too many species crowding one small stretch of ground to record individually. Rather than choosing a single bloom to study, the botanist sketched the whole tangle as it was, colour against colour, centre against centre, with no attempt to thin it out. The result carries that same refusal to simplify. It is a record of abundance rather than a single specimen, closer to a field note on a good year than a formal botanical study.
