About This Design

Unicorn's Tail moves in twisting vertical strands of teal, sage green, amethyst, magenta, and burnt coral, each colour bleeding into the next like threads caught mid-plait. The impasto effect builds fine parallel striations along every curve, giving the surface a spun, almost combed texture that catches light differently depending on the angle you view it from. Deep plum shadows fall between the strands, creating real depth against a warm grey ground, while the coral and amber accents flare through the twists like sparks caught in motion. Up close, the fine linework reads as texture and rhythm. From across a room, the strands resolve into a continuous, hypnotic wave. Nothing in this design repeats exactly, which is what keeps the eye moving from one twist to the next without ever settling.

The Inspiration

The idea came from watching a length of coloured rope being spliced, the way individual strands twist against each other yet stay bound as one continuous line. Unicorn's Tail borrows that same logic and pushes it into myth, imagining what a creature's tail might look like if every hair carried its own colour and refused to match the one beside it. It is less about the unicorn itself and more about what happens when many different things are woven into a single, moving form.
