THE WORK

A single Nguni bull leads the charge, horns thrown wide and caught sharp against a sky torn open by lightning. His body holds the most defined form in the frame, muscle and motion rendered in deep rust and near-black, while the herd behind him dissolves into a pale wall of dust and blurred shapes. Storm clouds press low overhead, lit from within by a fork of lightning breaking across the top of the frame. Grass streaks beneath him, blurred by his own speed. He's out front, alone in the space between the storm and the herd he's leading, the first to commit to the ground ahead.

THE INSPIRATION

Every herd has a moment where one animal steps into the lead, not chosen by ceremony, but by instinct, the one willing to commit first while the rest follow. This piece isolates that instant, pulling the lead bull out of the larger mass to stand alone against the same storm the whole herd is running from. Nguni cattle have long carried meaning beyond livestock across Southern Africa, status, lineage, presence, and this piece leans into that weight by giving one animal the full authority of the frame, undaunted by what's bearing down from above.
