The Work

Pinks and corals bloom against deep teal, the paint applied in overlapping strokes that build form without ever resolving into anything literal. The larger shapes read as flowers from a distance, but the surface tells a different story. Up close, the impasto is restless: thick ridges of pale blush layered over sweeps of ocean blue, orange accents catching light at the edges of each stroke. A sense of atmospheric moisture runs through the piece, the teal background bleeding into the warm foreground, forming in a way that feels less like contrast and more like conversation. Nothing competes. Everything overlaps.

The Inspiration

The decision to keep the colour temperature deliberately soft was intentional. Most abstract work in this vein goes hard into contrast. This piece pushed back against that.
