The Work

A full circular clock face sits centred in this portrait composition, its dark navy rim drawing a clean, unbroken arc against a surrounding field of deep blue and black. The face interior is divided into colour-block patches, yellow, teal, cobalt, red, magenta, and white, each section painted with thick, directional impasto strokes that give the surface the kind of texture you want to reach out and press. Roman numerals in warm orange-gold sit at their correct positions around the face, readable and grounded, the only elements in the collection that have refused to move. Two deep red hands extend from a dark crimson hub at the centre, one toward eleven, one toward six, precise and unhurried. Outside the rim, the upper field opens into orange, red, and teal before dropping into deep navy and near-black at the bottom, pressing in from below like the weight of time itself gathering underneath.

Where other works in this collection scatter, fragment, or flee, The Reckoning stays. The full circular form, the correctly positioned numerals, the deliberate red hands: these are not accidents. This piece was built around the idea of facing time rather than running from it, of standing inside the mechanism and letting it be exactly what it is. The colour-block interior introduces the collection's visual language of fragmentation and feeling, but the structure holds.
