The Work

Raw teal and burnt orange divide the canvas diagonally, cool grey-blue on the left giving way to warm amber and rust on the right, the two fields meeting along a rough, unresolved seam. Fine cuts run across both halves, sharper and more insistent here than in the softer pastels of the rest of the collection, cutting straight through the diagonal divide rather than settling into either colour field. The palette is heavier, more grounded, built from tones that don't ask to be liked. Where the other pieces in the collection hold their cuts gently, this one lets the marks dominate.

The Inspiration

The Blade exists to give the collection its edge, literally and structurally. Every collection built on softness needs one piece that refuses it entirely, and this is that piece. Teal against burnt orange was chosen for its weight and its lack of apology, a palette with nothing pastel left in it, so the cuts read as confrontation rather than contradiction.

What It Carries

There's no ambiguity here. The colour is heavy, the cuts are deliberate, and the piece holds its ground without softening for the viewer. It carries a kind of resolve that the other two pieces in the collection are still working toward, the sense of a decision already made rather than a question still being asked.

Living With It
