About This Design

Ave del Paraíso fills the surface with bird of paradise blooms, each crest built from sharp, upswept petals in orange, red, magenta and mustard yellow, with a single olive green petal at the heart of some. Long teal and navy leaves sweep diagonally behind and between the flowers and give the composition its lean. Every petal is rendered in thick impasto-style strokes, with ridges that follow the direction of each point. The blooms sit at different heights on a textured white ground and repeat in a staggered rhythm, so no flower lines up with the next. This is the most recognisable flower in Flores de Fiesta, and its pointed forms give the surface crisp edges and clear silhouettes at every scale.

The Inspiration

The Fiesta de Colores collection draws from the warmth and vibrance of traditional Mexican celebration. The name is Spanish for bird of paradise, and the silhouette earns it. Birds fly through Mexican folk art, from Talavera tile to painted pottery to carved and painted figures, always in the brightest colours the maker could find. Ave del Paraíso brings the bird and the flower together in one form, a crest that looks ready to take off.
