About This Design

Mazorca arranges capsule-shaped impasto strokes in tight vertical columns across a white ground, the forms stacking on top of each other in a composition that carries the visual rhythm of corn kernels arranged in rows. Magenta, warm yellow, burnt orange, deep crimson, dusty teal, olive green, cream, and navy move through the columns in a sequence that shifts from row to row, keeping the eye moving vertically through the design. The impasto rendering gives each capsule a smooth, rounded surface that contrasts pleasingly with the textured white ground. At fabric scale, Mazorca works on curtains, where the stacked columns align with the vertical hang of the fabric, and on upholstery, where the rhythm of the repeating form gives large surfaces a satisfying regularity.
